Freyberg wins Regional Spelling Competition
Six Year 9 students from Freyberg ventured down to Wellington this week to compete in the Central Region "Vegemite" Spelling Bee.
The regional competition saw Freyberg students competing against 63 of the best spellers from schools as far south as Marlborough
and as far north as Hawkes Bay. Three of Freyberg's students made it into the top six, including overall first place to claim top
school in it's first journey to the competition.
Thirteen year old speller, Holly-Rose McIntyre (pictured) won the regional competition and qualified for New Zealand's national competition next week against around 15 other students. The winner of this national competition then receives a trip to Washington D.C. to represent New Zealand in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
After being interviewed by Newspapers and Radio Stations, Holly-Rose fronted up to Whānau time today at 8:55 - a bit of a contrast from the spotlights and microphones of the last few days.
