Splash Carnival decides house cup
With seniors gone for exams, and only a whisker separating the top three houses
in the inter-house competition, the Junior Splash Carnival was always
going to be a well-contested final inter-house competition.
Around 200 students put on their togs to compete in the unorthodox competition, with events including whole house swims, wearable arts, ball retrieving, water slide and even a bit of dancing. Students approached the competition with a good dose of house colours and house pride.
There were some stand out performances from a number of juniors in the pool as well as some promising leadership skills emerging on the sidelines. Manawatu Head of School, David Lochhead described his highlight was the Freyberg spirit that saw even the slowest of swimmers cheered on with enthusiasm.
The winning house on the day was vital in deciding overall house champions for the year, and has been kept secret until prize-giving. There is now a nervous wait until Senior Prize-Giving before anyone knows for sure who lifts the House Cup in 2009.
