Taradale Exchange avoids rain, car crash
After being delayed by rain, and then a serious road accident delaying two of the buses, many were thankful the annual Taradale sports exchange actually took place.
The Numbers
140 students and around 20 staff took 3 buses at 6.45am to have 11 teams compete in 7 sports.
Sporting coordinator, Rosemary Barsanti was delighted with the student’s effort and performance on the field and behaviour off it, "…especially when two of the buses were held up for a couple of hours on the way home due to a truck accident which closed the road."
The Results
- Basketball: Our boy’s basketball had a big win, sliding around on a very slippery gym floor.
- Football: Our girl’s football continued in their winning way with a big win. The boy’s football didn't win, but the younger boys will certainly learn from their loss.
- Netball: The Senior A1 netball lost by 1 goal, but the Senior A2 netball had a good win.
- Rugby: The girl’s rugby drew 19 after a shortened second half! Freyberg’s boys U15 rugby were rather swamped by larger boys, but put up a good challenge. They missed their coach who couldn't make the mid-week trip.
- Badminton/ Squash The badminton team were rather overwhelmed and the squash team got close to a win, but not quite close enough.
- Hockey: The girl’s hockey team went down by 1 goal and boys hockey won (much to Mr Collier's delight).
