Bilingual Unit

Ko te Kaupapa matua o te Kahurangi Rumaki, ko te Manaaki i a tatou tamariki e whai ana i te reo Maori hei reo matua mö ratou. Ko te whakapiki hoki i nga taumata o te matauranga.

This unit provides the opportunity for year 9 and 10 students who are fluent in Te Reo to receive a bilingual programme in Social Studies, Māori Language, Mathematics, Science, Health and Information Technology.

By furthering their Māori education in a mainstream setting, students are exposed to the wide range of opportunities and cultural diversity that a large secondary school can offer.

Students enjoy low classroom-teacher ratios, and twice a term parental meetings to monitor their progress.

Entry into this unit is by special application. Entry requirements include either previous Māori immersion experience, or by meeting vocabulary, written and oral criteria.

The school also offers successful school and regional kapa haka groups.
