At Freyberg, our vision is to equip every learner with the tools, support, and preparation they need to succeed - the feathers symbolising knowledge, skills, and opportunities that help students grow and thrive. The bird represents each learner, who can reach their full potential when they are empowered with what they need both in and beyond the classroom.
The meaning connects strongly to our school context:
Teaching & Learning: Feathers are the knowledge, skills, and experiences we help students build each day.
Wellbeing & Personal Development: Each new “feather”, confidence, resilience, self-belief, enables students to take on challenges and aim higher.
School Community: It highlights our shared responsibility as educators, whānau, and support staff to provide the resources and guidance students need.
Cultural Connection: For learners reconnecting with identity and heritage, opportunities such as learning Te Reo Māori become important feathers that strengthen belonging and pride.
Overall, it reminds us that when we work together to equip students with the right supports, we empower them to soar.

Tēnei te mauri ka piki ake ki te rangi e tū nei
He rangi atua, he rangi tipua, he rangi tawhito
Kia whiti, kia whiti, ko te mātauranga
Kia tau, kia tau, ko te māramatanga
Whāia kia tata, puritia kia mau.
Haumi e, hui e, tāiki e!
Tēnei te mauri ka heke iho ke te whenua e takoto nei.
He rangi atua, he rangi tipua, he rangi tawhito
I whiti, i whiti, ko te mātauranga e
I tau, i tau, ko te māramatanga
Tēnei te mauri ka hikitia kia wātea
Haumi e, hui e, tāiki e
Tis the lifeforce that rises to the sky above
Tis a miraculous, wondrous and revered day.
Emanate such knowledge upon us
Embed such understandings within us
Pursue until within reach, holding steadfast.
United together in our purpose!
Tis the lifeforce that descends unto the land
Tis a miraculous, wondrous and revered day.
Knowledge radiates within us,
Imbued with understanding
Enlightened by the life force and at peace.
United together in our purpose!
